Sustainable Trade
A sustainable trade in African blackwood requires the implementation of 3 key institutional elements:
1) Participatory Forest Management for forest-dependent people.
2) Forest Stewardship Council certification of Participatory Forest Management areas.
3) A Chain of Custody for Forest Stewardship Council certified African blackwood.
All three institutional elements are now in place in Southern Tanzania.

The work of Sound & Fair is now being supported by forestry regulations being implemented across the world, most notably, the Lacey Act in the USA, which has already been implemented, and forthcoming EU Timber Regulation.
