Sound & Fair will be promoting the responsible use of African blackwood by the music industry at Musikmesse in Frankfurt, 6-9th April 2011.
The music industry is the primary consumer of African blackwood, also known as grenadilla and mpingo, which is used to make woodwind instruments such as clarinets, oboes, recorders and bag pipes, and is often used as finger boards on guitars.
Sound & Fair’s call for the responsible use of African blackwood stems from the dramatic decline in the species’ East African range in recent years.
